Yes, you can use a tee ball bat for coach pitch based on many league’s regulations. You will want to check your specific rules, but typically the bat restriction is related to the barrel of the bat. And the barrels of tee ball bats are smaller than other bats. But, generally tee ball bats are not intended for live pitching.
Or as my grandpa used to say: just because you can do something, does not mean you should!
The transition from tee ball to coach is important for kid’s baseball development. This includes becoming accustomed to heavier, bigger barreled bats. Coach pitch bats often have barrel diameters of a little more than 25 inches, where as many tee ball bats’ diameter is around 21 inches.
Again, you should absolutely check with your local league officials. Some questions you can ask to be sure you get the necessary information:
- Does your league follow USSSA rules, Little League regulations, or another standard?
- What type baseballs will be used?
- Are there any barrel size limitations?
